Round 16 Match Report – Reserves

Hinterland 4.4-28 def by Kedron 15.15-105

It was always going to be a tough ask to come away with the points in an away game to Kedron with only 18 men and that is how it panned out for our 2’s team on the weekend. On a hot day we were well in the game at half time and even had the ascendency for large portions during the second quarter though the culmination of injuries and lack of a bench eventually took its toll.

Not that our guys rolled over though. Particularly impressive was Gilla in the ruck against a spring heeled opposition ruckman, Gilla just kept working hard all day and probably took the honours with his work around the ground. Humbler also pitched in with a couple of big tackles on their ruck in the space of 5 minutes that brought his own personal cheersquad to their feet. Jarrad was likewise tireless in the middle and did well to play out the game after a heavy knock in the third. Despite the hard work though the third was a defining quarter as Kedron broke away with 5 goals to 1.

Kalon continued his unfortunate run with injuries, copping a finger to the eye which caused half his eyeball to go red. His trip to hospital meant we were down another man and when Keenan hobbled off (‘nah I’m alright, just a bit tender’) it meant that we were effectively 2 men down on the field. Coupled with a few walking wounded on the field it made for a very tough last quarter. Kedron took full advantage to run out a 6 goal to 1 quarter to finish.

This game illustrated once again our biggest weakness as a club, depth. I feel for the guys that go out knowing how difficult a day it will be when they are 4 men down but couldn’t be prouder of the way they acquit themselves week in week out. There is improvement all over the ground with Psycho regularly in the best after improving most facets of his game, particularly marking. Brock Leedham also gives it his all every game and I know that he is keen to go to another level next season, so that bodes well. Willo was again ‘physical’ and led the way down back whilst Mick continues to defy his age in the middle of the ground.

With 1 game remaining I know our beloved ressies will be keen to make a good account of themselves against ladder leaders Redcliffe next week. It’s been a long year but they deserve to finish it strongly in front of a home crowd. Best of luck boys.

Go Blues

P.S. apologies to both of my readers for missing last weeks report, it was a good win for the 2’s at Pine Rivers.
