Round 11 - Reserves Match Report

Round 11 Report: Reserves

Hinterland: 6.9-45 def by Kedron 11.8-74

It was another bittersweet day for our reserves team this week as they went down fighting to a strong Kedron outfit. The positives were that we again fielded a full team and improved our losing margin by over 50 points. The disappointment was that we were the better team in general play for the first quarter and a half but couldn’t capitalise on the scoreboard.

Kedron certainly travelled well, their team didn’t have anywhere near the variety of ours in terms of body shape. They were all sort of straight and athleticish which I find very boring compared to mixed bag that we roll out of a weekend. Kedron soon found out what “deceptively athletic” means when Lachie racked up a heap of the ball in the first complemented Brocky and Psycho in the middle. Our defenders scrambled well as per usual with Kalon marking strongly and Keenan and Connor busting their guts.

Banga was good in the backline again and Mick was a workhorse all day. We just let too many goals through from turnovers with Kedron getting a loose man behind our defenders and causing havoc. In contrast we tended to bomb the ball in to full forward where Steve was either outnumbered or out positioned by a quality full back. He did fight his way back into the game late though eventually finishing with 5 goals with Sammy Loch kicking the other.

This week was a solid rebound after a big loss to Redcliffe last week, the effort was there all day and the guys are starting to link passages of play together more regularly. This time last year we were struggling to get anything resembling a full team on the park for the 2’s so it is indicative of where we are heading that we have managed to field full teams the last few weeks. There is plenty of games left this year and I know the boys are all keen to keep working on their game so we can snag a few more wins before the end of the season.
